A very merry new episode for all your advent needs! Just between us friends, we are reflecting on the year we’ve had both on and off this podcast (and, in truth, confessing that we have only a shaky idea what “advent” actually means).
This means curling up under a blanket, and spilling our takes on dating divorced dads, why Hallmark only makes horror movies, the “pied piper of poop”, and what happens when people assume we’re a straight married couple (gasp!).
On a sincere note, we launched Emergency Contacts this year concurrently with Season 2 of the podcast, and are extremely proud of the conversations we’ve had on the show this year, as well as the space we’ve built here on the newsletter with you all. We don’t take for granted the extreme privilege of being invited into your inboxes and earbuds, and strive to create meaningful, generative conversation that helps make the world feel more expansive — particularly in terms of how we live, how we love, and how we make families of choice.
In the wake of election season, it feels that the discourse has swelled even further around how to build 1-to-1 human connection, and how to directly serve your immediate community (rather than relying on a political ruling structure that many of us — across the political spectrum — believe isn’t serving us!).
We care for us, and all that jazz.
It has been a joy to connect with other people who are moving on this wavelength. Rhaina, championing a life centered on friendship in all its shades and complexity and intimacy. Lola and her hilarious, poignant reflections on living communally. Jasmine and Christina, reminding us that the support networks we build now are the ones we will age into. Sarah on raging against the machine. Michael on the literal spaces we build and cities we zone. Our own friends, and our family, who allowed us to share what our version of community looks like (so far).
Those conversations have permeated the fiber of our own daily lives, and we hope they’ve landed just a little bit for you, too.
If you know a hot dad we should date, or have a crazier Hallmark plot to tell us about, or have a grand idea for Season 3, drop us a word.
Advent has hit on this past weekend's radio show playlist, too. Just lightly. 🎄🪩
You can get even more of our melodious speaking voices on the internet airwaves, every Sunday evening at 6 Eastern.
